Matthew 14:25-30
Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to
them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they
were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus
immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if
it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” He
said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward
Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried
out, “Lord save me!”
Verse 30 says, “When he saw the wind,
he was afraid and, beginning to sink cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’”
When we go through hard things here on
earth this is what we tend to do. We may start out by saying “I know God has
this. I’m trusting Him through it all”, but when things start to take a really
hard turn what do we do? We take our eyes off the One that can help.
Proverbs 4:25-26
Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix
your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet
and be steadfast in all your ways.
The moment we take our eyes off the
One who helps us we begin to sink. We let satan have that power over us to
where we let anxiety, depression, doubts, fears and everything else that goes
along with it to the point we don’t even see Jesus right there in front of us
waiting for us to just reach out and say, “Save me, Lord!”
It goes on to say in verse 31,
“Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. ‘You of little faith,’
he said, ‘why did you doubt?’”
Why do we doubt? Why do we question
the One who can calm any storm?
Because we look at the situation were
facing and see no way out. We can’t see how things could get better, but let me
tell you today God can make a way when there seems to be no way.
