When you sleep

When you sleep, I watch you and think about the breathtaking moments of a fit of giggles, a shared connection, a gentle squeeze of hands.

When you sleep, I put my hand on your chest so I can feel your heartbeat.

I wonder how much time we will get -- together on this earth. And I know that no number of days will satisfy.

I think about my dreams for you. And I wonder what you are dreaming about.

I pray for God to watch over you, and to instill wisdom, patience, and grace in me, so I can give you everything you deserve in a mom.

When you sleep, I am finally relaxed. Because for the first time, I feel in control of your movements.

I even miss you. Sometimes I'll take out my phone and look at photos just to revisit every moment together. Because I want as much of this life with you as I can get.

When you sleep, my heart grows even deeper. And just when I think I can't love you anymore, I watch your soft breaths and I realize I want to watch over you like this forever.

Because there is no more peaceful, restful, and perfect moment for a mama, than watching her baby sleep.
